I've put together this wrapper application that allows you to use Notepad++ directly on OS X Mavericks and Yosemite, without the need of a virtual machine. It is made from freely available distributions of Wine and Wineskin with all the settings configured to work from within a single app wrapper.
What's even better, everything needed is contained in this 56MB app wrapper. Mavericks doesn't include X11 and some other bits, but with this wrapper, you don't need to download or install any of them.
